jcanker 0 Posted November 18, 2011 I was asked to reconnect some cameras at a business for a friend of a friend. These cameras fell during the East Coast earthquake and were sent out for repair and then remounted. They are mounted near the peak of a 2-story warehouse, so it's difficult for me to get at the camera to check make/model. Coming from the distribution panel, there is a RG59 with the BNC snipped off for the signal and a Black and White connection (I'm guessing that's the 12VDC). On one camera there are multiple wires coming from the camera: A black cable that contains a braided shielding which covers a yellow wire and a black wire. There is also a Red wire and an Orange wire There is also a green wire and a brown wire that were taped off at the repair facility. Any best guesses as to which wires to connect to my Black/White and my RG59 center and shielding?
Soundy 1 Posted November 18, 2011 Really impossible to say without more info - make and model of camera, maybe some pictures, etc. If I were to make an educated guess, though, I'd say the shielded wire is power and video, with the shield being a common ground... but which is which, is hard to say: yellow is commonly used for video connectors, but in this case, black would be an odd color for power. Most often, power would be red and black (12V and ground respectively). The red COULD be power, and again, using the shield for ground. Other wires might be for audio, or for serial control (ie. RS-485 for on-screen adjustments; I'm assuming this isn't a PTZ camera). All that's guessing, though...
jcanker 0 Posted December 6, 2011 Okay, a bit more info now. don't have the exact model, but it's a DNB weather-proof. One of the manuals for a camera in that line says the wires are: Red --DC 12V Orange -- GND Black -- GND(Video) Yellow -- Video Out Green -- RS-485(+) Brown -- RS-485(-) So I'm thinking: Camera Yellow to the copper core of the RG59 Camera Black to the shielding of the RG59 Camera Red to Line Black Camera Orange to Line White how does that sound?
