smcctv 0 Posted November 28, 2011 Hi guys, Come to a bit of a standstill. I am trying to view 4 Cams via an app on an iphone, supplied be the company (AlienDVR) that i brought the DVR from. I can view the cameras using the app via the internal network (192.168.1.***) next step is the view the cameras externally, so i have configured the port to be open for 8080, which then should direct it to my DVR. I have tried this on the Software APP and on the browser (82.16.**.***:8080) but i am unsuccessful. I think the problem relies on the router settings. (Thomson TG585 V8) Could anyone provide me with a step by step instructions onto how to set this up or any other checks i can do. Also, after this works, i will need to configure Dyndns to work with this. I presume i just enter the DNS details in the router and set a host on the Dyndns website? Many thanks for reading this, any advice would be appricated.
fa chris 0 Posted November 28, 2011 Make sure the port is forwarded properly: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Thomson-Alcatel/TG585v8/default.htm set protocol to any, port range 8080 to 8080, translate to 8080, then click add. trigger protocol will be left to any, leave trigger port blank. smcctv 0 Posted November 28, 2011 Hi, The port forwarding (8080) does work when the mobile app is set to look within the IP address assigned to the DVR, but as soon as i change the mobile app to the current external IP, still using port 8080. I receive a message saying "Device login failed: DVR network receive timeout". Starting to pull my hair out now. Thanks

Thanks Just to clarify, when you try to connect from the outside, you are connecting via 3G (or other cellular), not WiFi, correct? What mobile device? Most mobile devices will automatically switch between cellular and wifi, and you have to shut-off wifi to properly test external access. If it's working when you use the internal private address of the DVR, that would usually mean you're hitting in over WiFi on the local network. Many DVRs tend to need more than one port, so I would triple check that only port 8080 is needed. On many firewalls, you must both open the port AND define a NAT (pinhole) rule to direct external traffic for a particular port to a specific internal IP address. fa chris 0 Posted December 2, 2011 http://www.aliendvr.com/docs/support/alien_dvr_networking.html You need two ports open.
SectorSecurity 0 Posted January 9, 2012 When you opened the ports on your router did you enter the internal IP address the traffic should be routed to? if you simply opened the ports without telling it the internal IP address to route the traffic its like sticking mail in the outgoing mailbox without an address, sure the post office worker will get it but have no idea where to send it.
