Soundy 1 Posted December 14, 2011 Pretty much all email systems except Exchange use SMTP to accept email from clients. You'll want to find the SMTP server IP for the ISP you're connected through, and enter that - for example, if the internet connection is through Comcast Cable, you'd want to use Comcast's SMTP server. rory 0 Posted December 14, 2011 normally you would enter the smtp server name, eg. smtp.orangehome.co.uk You can also use the IP if you want, once its not dynamic (rare). However I tried telnet to that SMTP server and port 25 and its a no go. Check with your ISP on the correct SMTP server name and port number to use. for the email address use the one you want it to send alerts to.

Should just be able to leave that blank. If not just enter your email address.

Correct, that SHOULD work. what about the port and 'local email address'? thanks! Port is 25, unless your ISP specifies otherwise. Local address would normally be your address, although it can probably be just about anything. You should probably enter something at least resembling a real email address, as the SMTP server may reject it otherwise. normally you would enter the smtp server name, eg. smtp.orangehome.co.ukYou can also use the IP if you want, once its not dynamic (rare). He HAS to use the IP - the DVR setup doesn't give the option to enter a hostname (see screenshot above).
ljarrald 0 Posted December 14, 2011 i should mention that i am doing all of this remotely... i will not have acess inside the house for a couple of weeks. i can access the router setup and the dvr. i have just thought that i can not access the dvr from a web browser (it uses port 25) so i will try opening incoming and outgoing port 25.
