Problem connecting to PC based DVR

Does anyone have a suggestion to fix a problem Im having. I am using a GeoVision GV800 Card in a Dell 560 PC with a Pentium E6700 CPU running Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit. The PC works fine and all 4 cameras are visable on the GeoVision software. The problem is when I use Go To My PC to connect remotely to the PC some of the images are solid pink instead of the camera image. It seams to be only the larger views. Most of the small views are working. And it is only the live views. The recorded views are played back without a problem. I have same set up except Windows XP on another PC based DVR and it works fine. I've talked to tech support and they have no answers.

It's because the GV card is using the video overlay for its live view - the camera signal is piped directly to the display memory, instead of being processed and re-rendered. This is normal for hardware-compression cards (if you check, you'll probably find your other PC-based DVR is using a software-compression card).

Change to a software-compression card... or use the GV remote software instead of remote desktop software.

 

I know Vigil has an option to switch to software rendering when using hardware-compression cards, so it works properly over remote desktop... no idea if GV has a similar option.

 

Using the proper remote software is still preferable - I find remote desktop software in general tends to be clunky, slow, and have poor quality for this sort of thing.

Here is the solution:

 

Click on the "Configure" button. Then point to "System Configure". Now click on "Startup". On the right side of the window is the "Display" section. Uncheck the "Enable Directdraw Overlay" check box. Now restart the GeoVision program and you should be all set.

Click on the "Configure" button. Then point to "System Configure". Now click on "Startup". On the right side of the window is the "Display" section. Uncheck the "Enable Directdraw Overlay" check box. Now restart the GeoVision program and you should be all set.

no, that is not the right way to do it.

 

you should not be viewing the cameras over a remote desktop program.

 

enable the geovision web server and open some ports in your router...you will get better results.

I'm Sorry for the confusion. You are right about your advice. Except in my case the customer is using a MAC computer to view the cameras and the only way to view multiple cameras at once is through remote desktop software. My bad for not explaining that at the begining. If you know a way to do this without remote desktop software, I would be happy to learn how. When I last checked with tech support they said I could only view one camera at a time and viewing recorded video was not availible for MAC's.

DM multiview or Remote Viewlog lets you view multiple cameras in a multiview.

Dont know what tech support you were talking to.

I understand if you have a windows based PC. But for Apple Mac's using Safari, Remote Viewlog does not work. If I am wrong please let me know.

ok, got it. since the safari browser can only view one camera, you are having them remote in to see the actual desktop which shows whatever view you want.

 

not ideal, but it looks like it works for them.

 

the only down side is that some remote programs will change the colors/not display everything properly so you might see something that doesn't look right/normal.

 

but i do understand what you are talking about.
