kkevin2004 0 Posted January 2, 2012 I'm new to this world and have used the board for a lot of my design of my system. I'm using a Qvis Zeus 8 Channel DVR which has VGA out which is used to connect to the monitor at the DVR. I also want to make a connection with the BNC out to my HDTV which is about 100 feet away. I have wired the entire system using Cat5. Is there a way to go from my DVR to the tv using the BNC out going through Cat5 and connecting to an RCA male for the connection to the TV? Would it be easier to make the run with RG59? What do I have to worry about signal loss with the Cat5 or RG59? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
tomcctv 190 Posted January 2, 2012 Hi. you should be ok with cat5 from your dvr to tv then a balun at each end. but you will also need a RCA to BNC at your tv end.
thewireguys 3 Posted January 2, 2012 I would use the VGA output to feed your HDTV... You will be much happier with the image quality.
kkevin2004 0 Posted January 2, 2012 Thanks for the advice. The TV was just an afterthought so image quality not that critical. Wanted the ability to stay on the couch and monitor things. Really want to be able to see the VGA monitor at the DVR because it will probably be used a lot more.
PaulsonLaw 0 Posted January 3, 2012 http://www.amazon.com/Composite-Video-Stereo-Audio-Repeater/dp/B001CK8ICO ^^^ Check this out, using it over your cat5, you can get the audio/video & IR so the remote can control the DVR from your couch Comes w/ 2 little tip to put beside the dvr & tv & they plug in the plate, very cool stuff.... kkevin2004 0 Posted January 4, 2012 http://www.amazon.com/Composite-Video-S ... B001CK8ICO Very nice! Didn't know such a thing existed. Definitely a cleaner way to add it to my wall near the TV. Thanks!
PaulsonLaw 0 Posted January 4, 2012 Right, things looks awesome! On our hill we are running 3 16ch set-ups. Our being the first. We are in the cabin, but as it will be a rental someday we want the DVR in the Main House. This was a great way to control it from the cabin. Note I have not installed yet, but have it sitting here... The unit claims up to 342' of cat5. I will be running right at 400' so I think I might run cat6 SSTP just for this use, while running the cams at 300 to 400' on cat5 in conduit... Will repost how this unit works for remote control at 400' in a few weeks when its in...
