commandcenter1 0 Posted January 4, 2012 Hi there Im new to the forum and just started to put together a security system for my home. I recently picked up a 540 tvl outdoor weather proof camera with the sony super had ccd/dsp. I picked up 6 on sale for 100 each. My question is for another 200 bucks i can upgrade to the same camera housing with a 700 tvl sony effio chip set installed (super had II ccd sony effio). Will i see that big of a difference in picture quality? Id like to be able to ID a perp if vandalism was committed on my property or theft, in the day or night. They both have infrared that project 100-130 feet at night. I have two strong flood light projecting in the area where the cameras will be filming, they will be mounted on the first floor under the front eve of the house that projects roughly 5 feet or so for some added protection what do you suggest? thanks
SEANHAWG 1 Posted January 4, 2012 Id like to be able to ID a perp if vandalism was committed on my property or theft, in the day or night. I think the thing to focus on in this scenario is the optics that are used on the camera and it they are strong enough to view in on the area where the perp would be walking. With Analog, you cant get a camera to cover a real wide area and also have detailed face shots at the same time in most circumstances. If you want detail shots, then you need to dedicate that camera to that specific purpose and position the camera and zoom in the lens to a choke point where the perp would be walking. Soundy 1 Posted January 4, 2012 Don't get too hung up on TVL - NTSC video standard maxes out at 525 lines transmitted, and 486 visible lines, while almost all DVRs sample at 480 vertical pixels.
shockwave199 0 Posted January 4, 2012 edit- still half asleep. Considering the chips you're talking about, you'd probably be better off saving the money and placing/aiming what you do have super well. The cams you have can probably do the job great if applied really well in every spot. Good luck.
commandcenter1 0 Posted January 4, 2012 ahh ok i see, so ill focus more on camera position and angle where i think a possible perp may enter or exit the property. or even pin point it near the cars they would try to break into. Ive read on here that in order to get the perps face in the shot to not place the cameras so high overhead, it may show his bald spot or baseball cap well but not necessarily the details of his face. good advice! Stanislav 0 Posted January 5, 2012 The difference between 540 and 700tvl is not big in reality. Right camera positions, focal length of lenses, lighting are much more important.
shockwave199 0 Posted January 5, 2012 To me it's not the tvl at all. It's the difference between sony super had ccd/dsp and super had II ccd sony effio. As long as the 540 is a reasonably good hardy camera overall, it should be fine enough. An extra 200 balloons for 700 tvl is terrible, even if it IS an effio chip and even if it throws in other features such as OSD, varifocal, WDR, TDN, etc. Those are all good things to have mind you, but you don't need to drop upwards of 300 bucks for it. If you must, check out the 700tvl line at gadspot. Lots of features without spending a mortgage payment. But unless your 540 is utter crap, it should be fine provided you place them well. Good luck.
