joey428 0 Posted January 8, 2012 Hello, I have a Costco purchased QT 428. I set it up with some learning curves as I am not too savvy with electronics. Got to the point of cameras viewing on tv, and on my iphone through my wifi at home. My questions: If i walk out of range of my wifi, I cannot view the system. Why? Logged into another wifi (at Peets coffee...) same applies. Also, I cannot log into the ip at another computer (ie7). Please help.
SectorSecurity 0 Posted January 9, 2012 When you leave your own wifi you have left the LAN, local area network, a wifi connection down the street does not reconnect you to your wifi thus you are not on your LAN. To access the system you need to determine your external IP address, which is assigned to your modem, and any time you are not on your own wifi this is the address you will need to use to access your system. Google whatsmyip from within your own LAN. As for the other computer is it on the same network? doesn't have to be using wifi but is it plugged into the same router as your dvr? If it is not then the same situation as I mentioned above applies.
joey428 0 Posted January 26, 2012 Hello again, I have a q-see 428 system from costco. It is all set up, I have the ip addresses set up and I can view the cameras on my home LAN and iphone. Once I am out of range of the LAN, I cannot view or access any of the system. I have a 2wire AT&T router and I am not sure of what other settings I need to make my system work from a remote computer and my iphone. Someone told me it may be a MAC address seting. Please let me know what I need to do to get on my system from my iphone and another computer? Thank you!
MaxIcon 0 Posted January 26, 2012 QSee has lots of info on doing this. Go here: http://www.q-see.com/products/security-product.php?ProductId=289 Click on the Installation Guide tab and check out the Quick Internet and Smart Phone Setup Guide and Simple Port Forwarding Instructions. Essentially, you need to do the following, and the guides above will give the details: - Figure out your DVR IP address and port. - Figure out your home network external IP address (not the same set of addresses your DVR is part of) - Forward the DVR port to a port on your router. - Plug the external IP address and port into your remote access system. Some providers will let you put your external IP and port into a browser on your home system and see it there, just as if you were outside your home network.
