mpovolo 0 Posted January 16, 2012 Hi, I was looking for some advice on which way to proceed. I tried a few DVR's that would allow motion based email alerts with still attachments. What I found is that I was getting alerts even with the no motion and on the lowest sensitivity. Perhaps the DVR's I tested were cheap and I would get better results with something more expensive. Alternatively, I was also thinking of using an encoder and connecting the cameras to my Synology NAS. Never really tried it so not sure if it is worth even trying. Any suggestions
rory 0 Posted January 16, 2012 Motion will always send alot of events. Best to use Alarms to send the events.
bike_rider 0 Posted January 17, 2012 As Rory says, IR motion sensors are the "best" way to get motion alerts. Still not fool proof (cats and such), but much better than motion based. The DVRs should have some sort of I/O or alarm inputs. BTW, Synology is $50 per camera for the license. Definitely not worth the price for their software. Milestone is far better for the same price.
