Soundy 1 Posted January 31, 2012 I've recommended that one numerous times here. It's not a "virtual" PTZ, but a software PTZ controller. Very handy to have on your service laptop for testing PTZs in the field (most laptops will require a USB-to-serial adapter; built-in serial ports are extremely rare these days). rory 0 Posted January 31, 2012 Just curious, why would you use this over the software that comes with your system?

SDM Group 0 Posted February 1, 2012 Its good for trouble shooting in the field
rory 0 Posted February 1, 2012 Again, why not just use the software that comes with the system? Over the wireless network, troubleshooting out in the field? Instead of messing around with serial ports.
rory 0 Posted February 1, 2012 BTW it does look like nice software.

Instead of messing around with serial ports. In a service situation with unknown equipment and protocols this would come in handy
Soundy 1 Posted February 1, 2012 Again, why not just use the software that comes with the system?Over the wireless network, troubleshooting out in the field? Instead of messing around with serial ports. What if you're too far for WiFi? Or have too much structure in the way? Or the DVR isn't connected to a network? Or is on a corporate network that doesn't allow wireless? Or doesn't support remote PTZ? What if you're trying to troubleshoot PTZ communication issues? Determining if the DVR's control port is or isn't working? If the wiring to the PTZ is intact and connected properly? LOTS of reasons this can be a VERY useful tool. rory 0 Posted February 1, 2012 What if Rory is incapable of thinking outside the box? What if Soundy is not a programmer who thinks outside the box on a daily basis.
rory 0 Posted February 1, 2012 What if Rory is incapable of thinking outside the box? BTW i DID say it is nice software .. guess yall missed that part What if Rory could edit his posts ... feature has disappeared
rory 0 Posted February 1, 2012 What if Rory is incapable of thinking outside the box? BTW .. what if Rory made a tool like this- for FREE ? after all its not rocket science See .. im always thinking outside the box .. but I need to know if its worth the time. Nice thing though about if I made it, it could run on other OS and not just Windows .. Since the one in question is limited to requiring the need for the .NET framework. No I dont write Mac C++ etc but a stand alone app without the .NET framework can very easily be made to run on Linux or Mac with WINE. See .. outside the box .. again
SDM Group 0 Posted February 1, 2012 For the larger service clients on the mainland, with an array of equipment this tool comes in very handy. It's a little short sighted to assume that all equipment manufacturers have the required protocols for all the different proprietary PTZ's out there i.e. AD Manchester, Biphase, Sensornet etc. and support different menu commands.
