intheuk 0 Posted February 4, 2012 I have bought a (B grade) Sentient cctv system from Maplins. I am having nothing but trouble instaling it. First there was a lead missing, a new one was sent out to me which they sent a wrong one out. When they finally sent a right to me I then discover that one of the camera cables was faulty. Now I need to wait till a new lead arrives. My friend and I have fitted the cctv camera with only three of the four cameras working. Now believe it or not more things are going wrong with the system. Both remote controls for DVR and TV don't work, the mouse that they provided is sh*t that doesn't work properly. And for some reason I cannot log into the DVR control panel because I have no password, and nobody at Maplins can help me they don't know how to log in with a manufacturers password. I have found Maplins to be TOTALLY USELESS. Can anyone please help. The system that I have is a Sentient H.264 4 camera DVR sytem (B grade).
tomcctv 190 Posted February 4, 2012 maplins b grade are customer returns for reasons like not working or not what they expected......... i would return your unit ..... dont spend time on it. another problem with maplins is you will find you will have problems on memory pen format whichwill not allow you to burn off. try and burn and view some of your footage (it takes about 1 to 2 hours to burn 20 mins)
intheuk 0 Posted February 4, 2012 It means un-instaling all the cameras and somehow this seems like giving up but it might be best in the long run and buy from somewhere else. Thanks. Is anyone able to recommend a CCTV system to buy? I am looking for a four camera system that can take more cameras in the future if required, and one with a decent hard drive. Numb-nuts 1 Posted February 4, 2012 I sent you an email, I'll have a look at it all for you since I live in Bolton, and see if it isn't something simple before you go spending lots more money. Sentient isn't the particularly good but you've already paid for it so you might aswell see if it will do the job. I can't supply you any equipment as I only supply equipment as part of a complete installed system, but I will be able to point you in the right direction locally. Mark To PM a member look their post, at the bottom of the post are some blue buttons on the left, one says PM, click it and send a message in the same way you make a post on the forum but it will only go to that member. To see if you have any PMs look at the top right of the page it shoes the number of new messages you have received, click the text to read your messages. ljarrald 0 Posted February 8, 2012 ebay is brilliant for used cameras. all the cameras in my system are second hand from ebay. the average cost of each one is about £35. bearing in mind when brand new these cameras go for over £100! and they all came to me in as new condition although i know what to look for. if you don't know much about the world of cctv it may not be a good idea. Would have bought it myself but we have enough cameras...

intheuk 0 Posted March 15, 2012 The saga of my cctv system from Maplins, continued. BAD NEWS-Something else went wrong with the system had to send it back to Maplins. When it was returned they had returned the DVR with the problem fixed but forgot to send the monitor back. When I phoned them about it they told me that they had just been posted off to me. When I received the monitor the next day they had not even opened the box. It was still in the sealed box that I sent it to them in-Meaning monitor not repaired. Enough was enough I sent the entire system with cameras back to Maplins angry wanted a free upgrade to a new one (not B-Grade) or my money back. GOOD NEWS-Two days ago I received my new CCTV system (not B-Grade) and all seems to be working fine. Word of caution "Never buy a B-Grade from Maplins". For the saving of a few pounds it is not worth the hassle. At least this story has finally got a happy ending.

Would have been even better news if they'd given you your money back, but ultimately they upgraded your equipment and that's a very reasonable outcome.
