mpovolo 0 Posted February 8, 2012 So I had a 4 outdoor camera analog system, coax and power run to each location. I upgraded the DVR to a hybrid Aver DVR, installed a motion detector at my front door and interfaced it to the DVR for alarming, then upgrading my front door camera to a 480 TV line night vision bullet. After all this, still not happy, my front door imaging isn't all that great, I even have my lights turn on at night and I cannot even make out the face from 8 feet away. So, was thinking maybe it's time to go IP with mega pixel cams. Which introduced a whole series of other issue like getting CAT5 cabling to each of the locations. Looked at IP over coax, but it requires power at each location. Was thinking maybe outdoor Wifi, but apparently not a good route. Perhaps there is a better route. Any suggestions? thanks
Soundy 1 Posted February 8, 2012 There are IP-over-coax adapters that don't require power at both ends - don't know a model number offhand, but send a PM to ak357, he should be able to point you in the right direction. Of course, you need power at the camera location for the camera itself, so powering the adapter as well shouldn't be an issue - the power-both-ends models I've used all worked with both 12VDC/24VAC. Razer_SE 0 Posted February 8, 2012 If you have a power over ethernet switch they also make adapters that will take the power from there and power the camera with no power needed anywhere but the switch. The cost of the units I use is pretty high though at say $400 or so. It would be cheaper to run new wire unless the run is a really long one. Veracity makes the ones I use, VHW-HWPS-B and VHW-HWPS-C. I only use the adapters where CAT5 would be too long of a run, at 600' of cable and having to run it, that makes $400 look pretty nice when coax is already there lol.
