crow 0 Posted February 10, 2012 hi what cable would be suitable to use for 12v power to 2 cameras rg59 is 200ft long to dvr so i am placing 5 amp power supply local next to cameras about 15 to 20 meters away and will use seperate cable for power instead of shotgun cable i can only buy 305meters of cat 5 cable and its too expensive what will be suitable to buy from city electrical as there is a shop local to me thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Soundy 1 Posted February 10, 2012 You can use just about anything for power cable. 18/2 is most common, but we normally use station-Z wire (22/4, aka alarm wire) if we need separate power. You can use speaker wire, lamp-cord wire, microphone wire... heck, you could even use 14/3 Romex if you REALLY wanted to. For a 200' run, though, running through 18/2 Siamese cable back to the DVR should work fine as well. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
