What does RESET FACTORY DEFAULTS really do?

Does resetting the factory defaults through the menu recreate the ADMIN account? When I press reset in the menu it beeps, but doesnt reset passwortds etc, only the cameras.

Not knowing which DVR you are referring to, I would hazard a guess that

the account you are using is NOT an admin account and therefore you

don't have the required permissions to do a full reset to default.

The DVR is AVC777M. When adding a new user, the admin account dissapeared. It was saved like this so now there are no user accounts via the network. We still can access through the front panel menu. Does removing the battery work? Does bridging the jumper restore the lost account?

Can't comment, I haven't fitted that DVR so I'm not familiar with it. But the battery usually holds setting changes to the embedded software. Are you sure you didn't just rename the admin account as accounts have "status".
