securolo 0 Posted February 16, 2012 Dear members, I am a new member on this forum and excited to be active for the coming years. I recently installed a DVR + 4 camera's. We installed the DVR in a room, but came to the conclusion that we want to monitor in another room. The problem is that we would need a 15M vga cable from the dvr to the TV in the other room. And we cant cut off the vga connector to reconnect it (they say its very hard and difficult). Can someone please advise me how we can get this done in a simple but good way. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
securolo 0 Posted February 16, 2012 So I would need 2 of these baluns? One to connect to the TV, the other to the DVR, connected with a UTP cat5?
Soundy 1 Posted February 16, 2012 That is correct. All the VGA baluns I've used (MuxLab) have separate units marked for Computer and Monitor, and the two are sold separately (kinda silly, since they only work in pairs)... not sure if the GEMs come as a pair or not. The part order information seems to indicate these are sold separately as well - this one pictured above appears to be the PC end, this one appears to be the monitor end:
jtetterton 0 Posted February 17, 2012 What the max transmission distance for these? I'm assuming there is also an Active version for greater distance?
jack in oz 0 Posted February 20, 2012 according to this website, up to 135m: http://www.avaustralia.com.au/products/VGA-Over-Cat5-Balun-Pair-(up-to-135m).html cheers

Soundy 1 Posted February 20, 2012 ^Then you're definitely looking at an active solution, at additional cost.
jack in oz 0 Posted February 20, 2012 I'm using one of these for the IR extension: http://axium.co.nz/products/IR/ It works well. I was given it, so I don't know how much they cost.
