Advise Please

We have a barn that I have added a wireless surveillance camera set up (2 cameras). The barn is about 100 feet from the house. We get interference and the signal is weak to where we do not see a good picture. So, I am planning on adding a system that is connected by wires. I will need about 150 feet of wire to do this. I have a TV in the house that I will hook it up to.

 

Is there a certain model and type (brand) that I should be looking for? We do want color and night vision as well and will probably want 4 cameras. I can install it myself.

 

I have been searching ebay ( I do not mind a used unit to save some $) as long as it will work but there are so many, I am not sure what parameters to look for other than what I have described.

Do you have a *realistic* budget in mind? I wouldn't look at spending less than $1000 for a DVR and four cameras... and NOT purchased as a "package system".

We do not need a dvr..just cameras a receiver, transmitter and wire.

Why not get a quad processor?

 

I have 4 CNB VBM 24 VF cameras installed but they do not have IR. If you need IR check out KT&C's line up of 700 TVL IR bullet cams.

 

If you have power in the barn you can get away with one Cat5 (with Baluns) run from the house. Pick up a central power supply for the cameras and you should be good.

Yeah, that works: one Cat5e run between barn and house can carry four video signals. Power the cameras locally (ie. power supply in the barn). The VBM or VCM-24VFs will give you good picture with very little ambient light, and you can add external IR, or better, motion-activated floodlights if you need to. The cameras go for well under $200 online (Nelly's Surplus, on of the site's partners, lists them for $165).

I'm a newb @ all of this, but just thought I'd drop my .02 about cheaper stuff...avoid it. I'm up to about 800.00 for 2 cameras, a DVR, 1TB HDD, Cat5e, baluns...I'm planning on adding 4 more cameras...so I expect this number to ~ double. Be realistic with yourself, and accept that you get what you pay for. Research the hell out of everything before you buy it. (by research I mean Search on this forum, and maybe on the rest of the internet a little as well). Then once you've searched you might type up your plan on here, and see what the more knowledgeable people on this forum (not me btw) say about your plan. The more you research the less disappointed you will be.

You can probably get some CCTV complete kits in this case.

Your ad claims 20m IR then in the specs it claims 30m IR .. what gives?

Can you provide a sample image so that we can see the actual IR distance?
