jtetterton 0 Posted February 17, 2012 I bought a 66 block for my installation with the idea of terminating inbound video and power from my cat5s. Im now wondering if it's ok to run 24v through the 66 block? Is this an ok practice or should I avoid it?
bpzle 0 Posted February 18, 2012 I believe the less breaks, the better... but yes, it will work and you should be fine
jtetterton 0 Posted February 18, 2012 I do understand the more breaks between the camera and the dvr/power can does mean more places for "trouble". I'm just looking for a easy way to do a clean install. Thanks for the advice! I'm also curious, does anyone know what voltage a standard phone line (POTS) runs at? bpzle 0 Posted February 18, 2012 without cheating and using google... i believe like 75 volts on the hook and about 50 volts off??? i'm probably wrong...
Soundy 1 Posted February 18, 2012 ^Yeah, something like that... ring signal is a 90V carrier at something like 8-10Hz, IIRC.
jtetterton 0 Posted February 18, 2012 Wow, I had no idea that much current went through the phone line..
Soundy 1 Posted February 18, 2012 Voltage... not current. POTS uses very low current.
bpzle 0 Posted February 18, 2012 current does not equate to voltage. current = power bill each month.
ak357 0 Posted February 18, 2012 without cheating and using google... i believe like 75 volts on the hook and about 50 volts off??? i'm probably wrong... Off hook about 10-15 v On hook 50-60 v ring up to 90 v
ak357 0 Posted February 18, 2012 Voltage... not current. POTS uses very low current. If I remember correct, look at ph line as 600 Ohm impedance
