Wireless analog camera added to an existing wired system

Recommended Posts

I have a garage with electrical outlets about 100 feet away from my DVR which is in my basement but only 20 feet from the closest part of my home's exterior wall and I want to mount a camera on the exterior of the garage but I do not want to run any additional wiring between my home and garage. I will consider running wires within my home.

These are the options I am considering and I would appreciate your input:

1. Wireless camera with a receiver connected to my existing Speco DVR

Pro: Simple

Con: Not very flexible, locked into specific camera model/vendor, unsure of radio quality/reliability

2. SPECO WK 2505 wireless cctv transmitter receiver 2.4 Ghz

Pro: Simple, I select any analog camera I want, a well known cctv product vendor, choice of other radios

Con: Unsure of how well such radios work in real life. Are their better radios that don't cost a mint?

Really seems like a no brainer but I am new at this and would appreciate your help. I am thinking of going with option #2 and possibly running a drop from my DVR to the inside of the wall closest to the Garage which is about 20 feet away. BTW, I did search the forums prior to posting but I did not see anything helpful.

Thanks!
