sklm 0 Posted February 20, 2012 I am new in this forum. I want to install 8 cameras between 40 meters to 210 meters distance. Can I use computer SMPS for power supply to the cameras? Here computer SMPS outputs power as 12V 19AMP or 12V 19AMP. Is it okay for 8 cameras and for that distance? I heard from some electronic equipment repairer that it can not be used for that long distance but it can be used for shot distance. Is it true? If it is true then why? I asked this question to the repairer but what he replied i not understood. Please guide my about perfect power supply for those cameras.
PaulsonLaw 0 Posted February 20, 2012 200 meters on 12dc?! That like Doc Brown needing 1.21 gigawatts! I would say either run 120 out to the locations or go with 24vac... & swap back at the end line....
Soundy 1 Posted February 20, 2012 The problem isn't with it being a computer power supply, it's a simple matter of voltage loss running 12V over that distance. Assuming a 500mA draw and 18 AWG wire, you'd lose over 2.5V at 120m.
