Hello CCTV Forum... oh how I need your help.

 

I've been asked to setup a CCTV system to cover a rather large area. My company has never officially gone into CCTV design and installation but because the client company asked us (IT company) to fix their CCTV (Mobotix) system a few years ago, which we've been maintaining ever since their CCTV company went bankcrupt, they have decided to trust our company to deliver the complete package on this new development site and I really dont want to let them down as it could even be a good avenue for my company to expand into. Plus i really know the main reason they want us to do it is because we wont charge £10,000 for the system.

 

Anyway the system I want to use would be of PoE nature and have cameras that can view clearly up to 80m away, I also need an audio alarm function. With the Mobotix cameras, you kind of have all that build in, they dont have the range or quality of other cams in my oppinion but it does have a built in speaker and microphone (unique). I dont really want to stay with the Mobotix system due to cost of the cameras and quality and no H.264.

 

So my questions are really:

1) What PoE network cameras do you suggest that could view upto 80m away relitivly clearly (and cost under £1,000 per cam)

2) If they dont have audio out function built into them, what is the best way to get an audio output onto the site using PoE cameras. Eg. On analogue cameras you just go through a 1-4channel video/audio server or DVR. What is the equipment used for audo output with IP cams?

3) Can a single channel audio/video server (single analogue input) with network support host multiple network cameras in the internal software even though it says "single channel"? Basically i think im lookin for a poe switch type device with audio output functions that can host the cameras on its internal software.

Most major manufacturer have full body and dome cameras that with the aid of lenses can easily and clearly view 80m. I'm using a 5MP to view 250m away. I'd suggest using megapixel.

Do you want to talk to people through the cameras? Or do you mean you want to record sound from the cameras. Again quite a few major manufacturers have cameras that have audio functionality. Vivotek is one of them.

What? What internal software? For a CCTV project you will need a separate DVR/NVR to monitor this system. A switch is a network device and has no ability to host cameras. It is just a means to connect various IP devices together. If you're using network cameras, why do you need analogue inputs?

 

Dependent on how urgent this job is for the customer, based on your last statement, I'd suggest you leave this to someone with more experience in this field. No offence to you, but if you're trying to find a switch to act as a DVR/NVR then you should sit back and do more research into how CCTV works before you undertake a job for a client.
