Jasper 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Did you check Microsofts Web Site for detailed options? Check out this link it might me helpful to you. It has the Generic Product Keys listed your are asking about. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/wpadepl.mspx#EDAA
fas 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Thanks Jasper. That's one of the things I was looking for. I guess I would enter that in my winnt.sif and then the system would prompt me to enter another key once installed.

The Components section allows more control over what parts of Windows is installed. The OEM runonce section is a little odd, and I had a pain trying to get it to accept a variable for the CD-Rom drive.
fas 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Thomas, Thanks. Do you know the best way to go about adding all the hotfixes and updates since sp2? I think there are 38 of them, or something like that.
Thomas 0 Posted January 25, 2006 There are two ways. One is to find one of the monthly .exes that are put out for those with "licence" issues. Or you could just D/L them from automatic update. I'd go with Auto update because I tend to find it horks installs less.
fas 0 Posted January 26, 2006 How do I go about downloading them from autoupdate? I already have all the updates on my current pc. Are you saying the hoxfixes and updates don't work well when slipstreamed in?
Thomas 0 Posted January 26, 2006 I know alot of people who swear by slipstreaming them but I've never been happy with the results. It could be that I'm not doing it correctly as well. I also think it's a PITA to reupdate the CD every few Tuesdays. But we're into personal preferance rather then hard facts.
CollinR 0 Posted February 3, 2006 Is it wrong to use a volume license copy of XP pro when you have a paid license of XP pro but hate the BS? I just realized why I had never had any of the issues you guys are talking about. Activate??
rory 0 Posted February 3, 2006 good site for windows updates ... all legit updates .. http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/index.html
Thomas 0 Posted February 3, 2006 Corp/Goverment Keys don't require activation. Is probley why Rory has never done it.
joe4 0 Posted February 3, 2006 You do not have to be that big, if you buy 5 at a time with Open License and Select License there is no activation.
