Razesdark 0 Posted March 12, 2012 I've got an DVR running here with 7 year old HDD which are slowly dying. So I got some cash to replace the whole bunch but was wondering how. They're running in a RAID 1 setup and are currently 400 Gb. I want to replace them for some nice WD Black Caviar 500 Gb HDDs. But I don't want to loose the data. Can I just replace half of them, rebuild it and then the other half ? Or do I loose 100gb per disk then ? Anyone got any experiance with this ?
Soundy 1 Posted March 12, 2012 What's the DVR? On a Windows-based unit, it should be easy to replace them one at a time, then expand the volume to fill the space. Anything else PC-based, it will depend on the RAID card. If it's a standalone... your guess is as good as mine.

As far as I could have seen, 2 got their RAID config inside Windows and 1 is only accessable trough booting. They're all running Windows XP. The two Windows RAID ones had a 'AMCC 3ware 9550SX'. WTFool 0 Posted March 15, 2012 I wish i could help. All of my experience is with raid5 which allows for 1 hotswap. That lets us replace them all as long as we allow the previous replacement time to recover. I'll try to research online to see if i can find an answer for you
