IP Cameras local network/bandwidth

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the noob question but does bandwidth only play an issue when trying to remote view a IP based system? If the client has an entry level high speed conection and does not have any intention of viewing cameras remotely how does this affect the # of IP cameras viewing/recording on the local network? is bandwidth still a factor? Thanks alot

It's less of a factor for smaller installations but can still potentially play a huge role, especially when putting the cameras on the owners network instead of a dedicated CCTV network.

Some cameras can require 30mbps or more depending on what they are streaming. Connect a few of these to a 100mb network and you have issues.

What determines the 100mb network? The router/switch? Thanks again

The switches, how they are linked, and the network cards. Multiple 24port 10/100 switches need to be linked together with gigabit ports if possible.
