CoolDude 0 Posted September 9, 2005 I need to run 2 cameras and power out approximately 200'. Can I use CAT3 I have left over from a lan install to run the video and power? I will be using passive balun for the video but should I double up conductors for the 24vac?
CCTV_Guy 0 Posted September 10, 2005 http://www.pelco.com/support/tools/wiregacalc.aspx Is cat 3 24 gauge? If so, 200 feet would seem to be marginal .... based on the chart above, I'd think that doubling up would be the prudent thing to do. Guess it depends largely on the current you'll be drawing. Best wishes, bill
VST_Man 1 Posted September 10, 2005 drop the cable in one room and test it...........then you'll know for sure....
rory 0 Posted September 10, 2005 Doubled up for sure, this is for 24VAC only and not exact. Cat2 or better. 100ma Voltage Draw (BW): DUAL 22AWG - 1500' DUAL 24AWG - 1000' 300ma Voltage Draw (Color): DUAL 22AWG - 600' DUAL 24AWG - 350' You shouldnt run 24VAC with data cable though. Power it locally if you must use the same LAN cable for video.
