ldavison10 0 Posted March 27, 2012 Hi, Im new at this and to be honest its been a nightmare experience so far. I have 2 cheap amazon bought cameras (which work fine for my purposes) and a USB DVR card that i got from Play.com. The physical setup went well, everything connected etc. I brought my spare PC down to run the software which is superDVR. Its a good 2 yr old PC, windows XP, dual core processor, 512 graphics card etc and its barely been used by PC standards. Everything seemed to install ok, the USB video card installed and ran, the software went on okay. However after a period of time between 10 minutes and 2 hours, i get the error message ‘cap4 mfc application has encountered an error and has to close’, and less frequently ‘USB has removed’. I got these cameras after someone thought my patio window would look better with a hole in it and i’d really like to get them running in the next couple of days. I’ve shortened this whole story down, over 2 weeks, i’ve tried all the following to resolve the error: 1) reinstalled the original many many times – no success, 2) installed every version of superDVR i can find on the internet latest versions, earlier ones etc – no success random error messages, 3) installed DVRguardian from Swann website – works but same error message 4) even reinstalled windows (what fun that was) 5) update graphics drivers galore etc etc. 6) update windows, 7) turn off firewalls etc all of which i have done, no joy. I’ve been at this for 2 weeks and im about to give up. My wife told me to give up last week as i suppose i am getting a little bedraggled with it all and it is getting me down soaking up so much free time that should be spent with the kids. Therefore im here asking for a little help, i know theyre cheap components but losing £200 excess with the window and a new baby on the way has demolished the budget which i never had. Sorry for spouting. Can anyone suggest 1 – solutions to the error messages (i really will cry), 2 – suggest alternative free software that will work with the usb card (ive tried other programs but they cant see the card as four inputs only one. 3 – cheap paid for software that will work that i can test first, 4 – anything else. I’ll try anything. Just to share this is a weight off my chest. Thanks for listening. Lee
tomcctv 190 Posted March 27, 2012 hi. the problem with USB recorders are there cheap £7 and there that price for a reason. if you have everything in place and a PC to run everything then i would spend a little more on a 4 way DVR card. a avermedia NV3000 card is only £65. and its also hybrid so you can add a MP ip camera later. but with going with the card also gives you better remote viewing from anywere have good recording time weeks if needed. ldavison10 0 Posted March 28, 2012 Hi, Is there anywhere i can buy this card from a shop? If not can you let me know the most reliable website to get it from...... ive seen a few 4 channel DVR cards on amazon but i dont know how reliable the shops are. Next question - if i get a DVR card, what software do i get bundled in with it? What if it turns out to be superdvr again? money down the drain? or is there alternative software i could run? Many Thanks Lee

ldavison10 0 Posted March 28, 2012 Its a big bummer that just because of crappy software i have to fork out again, the USB video card seems to work fine, its the software causing all the grief. Is there no alternative before i have to look at splashing out extra money on new hardware? Even something that will run just one camera through the USB card is better than none at all. Many Thanks Lee
tomcctv 190 Posted March 28, 2012 Its a big bummer that just because of crappy software i have to fork out again, the USB video card seems to work fine, it will work fine as it is ....... bad images bad controls and bad burn off you can buy them now for $2 if you buy 10 at a time. sorry but to run 1 camera never mind 4 you need to spend money. if $68 for a hybrid 4 way card is too much then your stuck with what you have.
