myplace46 0 Posted April 1, 2012 I'm just wondering why Cat5 cable has 6 TP when you can only use 4TP on a J45 connector? I'm sure there must be a good reason?
Soundy 1 Posted April 1, 2012 I don't know what cable you're using, but regular Cat3, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6a are four pairs only... However, according to Wikipedia,"Although cable assemblies containing 4 pairs are common, Category 5 is not limited to 4 pairs. Backbone applications involve using up to 100 pairs." You'll RARELY RARELY see anything other than four pairs though.
Numb-nuts 1 Posted April 1, 2012 I have only once encountered 25 pair.
myplace46 0 Posted April 1, 2012 Well... I guess that makes sense, I got the leftover from a job at work. still had about 250ft. I used it to wire my Pelco PT570-24 and the zoom, focus, iris on a couple cams.
survtech 0 Posted April 1, 2012 6-pair is not totally uncommon. I believe it's normally used for alarm, RS422/485 and other specialized applications. Belden makes a number of 6-pair 24 gauge cables - many labeled for computer apps - like 1429R, 1423A, 1511C, etc.
