I've noticed that these cameras are very similar (possibly the same camera in an outdoor config).

Is it possible to turn the $1K Sc385 into an outdoor model for much less than the $2k price of the SW395?

Sure just put it in a outdoor housing.

See the review on the SC385 on my blog, it's mounted outdoors in a dome.

I read it a few times before .

Yeah, thing is, I don't know how much all the extra's cost to get this how it would need to be outside. I know the outdoor version of this cam comes with nice temp control, humidity control, etc. I was hoping I could add the extra's to this cam for much cheaper than the outdoor version some day.

How much were the extra's on the one you did in the review?

I know you mentioned this cam was like the Axis one at almost double, were you able to find more that were similar to this one yet? (i.e. IP cam - 1280x960 at 30 fps, PTZ with 18x optical) around $1K or less.

Its a Videolarm, Model FDW75C8N. This dome is POE... Hi-PoE and includes the injector to power the camera and dome.. 60watts!!! Got it from iSourceCCTV (same company as securityideas.com) for $638.

This dome housing made some images blurrier. I would try the Panasonic housing, it's a lot less expensive.
