TropFarms 0 Posted April 5, 2012 Hello everyone, I have had a problem in years past with theft from a producing mango orchard. The property consists of a house with a large yard in front. It is fenced completely. The orchard occupies half the front yard, with the other half being open space and the drive. The entrance gate (about 20 feet wide) is about 350 feet from the house. The problem we have had in the past is people entering the property, either through the gate or by simply jumping over the fence where the gate is. What we would like to do is set up some cameras in the front where the entrance is. I'm looking for the most reliable system under $400 that can preferably be viewed from a computer on the internet, and can be used outside. Most of the theft has occurred at night so decent night vision is a must. The gate area has an electrical outlet that could be utilized. Any ideas/advice on this project is greatly appreciated. thank you!
camera-newbie 0 Posted April 5, 2012 Are you looking for a single camera or a series of them? If your total budget is only $400 you're going to be limited in what you can do.. Of course, you'll need, I would think, a cable running from the camera back to the house where the video can be recorded/archived -- for that you'll either need to run a trench and bury the cable or use some sort of wireless device to get the video back to the house -- there was a thread on here a few days back about such a device as I recall but I do not know the specifics.. I'd personally opt for the hard-run cable but that's just me. With only $400 you're stuck with analog cameras which is probably OK. I'm sure others will chime in.
