nDAlk90 0 Posted April 12, 2012 Many of us install security cameras, alarms, etc. But how many of us reinforced the frame of the door? What steps have you taken in protecting your front door?
fa chris 0 Posted April 12, 2012 Doors are easy to kick in, most have small strike plates with a deadbolt which rips right out of the frame or the deadbolt rips right out of the door. This is really the only thing you need to defend against. Use a deadbolt and replace the strike plate with a 12" plate, use long screws and get it deep into a stud. Reinforce the door with a wrap around plate like this: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100163752/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=door+lock&storeId=10051 Makes it a whole lot tougher to kick in and a pain to pry. myplace46 0 Posted April 14, 2012 This is how I take care of the problem. Heavy steel frame screws onto the existing wood frame, swings outward so it can't be kicked in. I can build these in several styles. I make security bars for windows too.
CHoffman 0 Posted April 27, 2012 Depending on whats next to the lock side of your door frame I have installed about an 8" chunk of 3/4" ID black pipe. Remove the strike plate and with a hole saw or spade bait thats just a hair larger than the OD of the pipe. Tap the pipe on the hole. The idea being that the deadbolt will slide into the pipe...typically Schlages have a longer bolt.
51cent 8 Posted February 19, 2014 Yes, you are right . Much peoples installs security cameras, alarm, etc., but they don't use high-security doors. In the market, there is many different types of security doors available (stainless steel doors, ENV 1627 class 3 doors) that's keeps you safe and protected. Thanks and choose the best door frame for your home security. http://www.securitydoorsdirect.com/high-security-doors.html Although your might be a spammer, I agree. We installed hurricane doors and windows last year. Here is video of a some crooks trying to break in a local condo. They tried kicking it in and shooting it. Sorry about the add at the beginning. http://www.cbs12.com/news/features/raw-news/stories/vid_194.shtml

(Actual garage door, 19ft wide) There is also a door into my garage, I'll have to reinforce that one too.
