AVTECH H.264 4 Channel DVR - Motion detect at night query

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Having scoured the internet to answers to various questions, I've come across this forum which seems to be very comprehensive. Firstly, for all the help that I've obtained from here previously - but I do have an issue that I can't seem to find an answer to.

Basically I have my h.264 4 channel DVR setup for motion detect at any time, however once it gets dark the motion detect seems to stop working and all I get are 'system' recordings that are 60 minutes long each, and start/end on the hour. I'm sure that this motion detect at night used to work, and I've tried looking at every option! The system recordings are working ok - and the external cameras are illuminated by the I/R so I know that they are working.

The system is running firmware 1032-1013-1013-1015 and I upgraded to this version after following the advice of a thread on another forum.

I did call the vendor where I bought the system, but they were less than helpful and just advised a factory default, and then reconfigure - which I did, but with no positive outcome.

If anyone on here has any words of wisdom, I'd be more than happy to receive them!

Thanks in advance for your comments,

-Gordon

Hi,

I think that probably you only need to change the sensivity of motion detection.

Wait when it's dark, and do some test to fint the better sensivity level for the detection.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I must admit that I have played around with the sensitivity quite a bit, but without success. Bizzarely this did work, and then one day it just stopped.

Yesterday I did try upgrading the firmware to version 1044-1015-1020-1017 to see if that made any difference, but that introduced a new problem whereby although motion detection was working (during the day at least), it wasn't possible to play back any of the videos that were captured by motion detection, as I would get a message that the recording couldn't be found. I reverted the firmware back to version 1032-1013-1013-1015 and everything is now back as it was (i.e motion works during the day, but I only get system recording at night).

Currently the sensitivity settings on the camera that I have the issue with are:

LS 10

SS 5

TS 5

I am happy to increase the sensitivty, but which values would you recommend? The camera looks out over the lane at the back of my garage, and there are a lot of trees overhead. During the day if it's sunny, the shadows from the trees do cause repeated triggering of the motion detection, and if it's raining this also triggers the detection. Ideally I'd just like for the motion detection to be triggered by people/animals and vehicles but I know that there will always be a comprimise.

Any advice/comments welcome!

Thanks,

-Gordon

Hi,

Interesting the issue of Playback, since the dvr is working well with version 1032 there is no need to change.

To solve problem of motion during night.....i would keep playing with sensivity, till you get some motion icon on the screen........ If motion icon never appears, chech on "timer record" if motion recording is active, and the timer is activated for the night (or just deactivate the timer function).

Let me know what is the result

Hi,

Thanks for that. Record timer is disabled, so I don't think that should be a problem.

I'll have a play with the sensitivity settings tonight all being well, and I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again,

-Gordon
