FishinMortician 0 Posted May 20, 2012 I registered and introduced myself back in September. I recently saved enough to purchase my system. It was recommended to another newbie and I liked it. The poster also has several videos regarding installations and such. Originally I was pricing 8 channel systems because it appeared that six to eight cameras would be required to cover my home. After considering trying to do it with four cameras, I was able to figure out a great way to cover everything. Back in September I was very concerned about thieves just grabbing the DVR as they exited. Some suggested a strong box. I plan to hide mine under the computer desk- mounted up under. A few brackets screwed to the bottom side and done. There are already tons of wires going this way and that, very confusing to know what does what. This way the DVR will be next to my computer for the internet connection, and the thieves would grab the computer and never think about looking under the dumb desk. Another concern was whether to mount the cameras in a stealthy manner or bold and in your face from the street. I read several good opinions regarding both styles. I believe that stealth is best. They would approach without masks and I could capture their faces before they realized that cameras are deployed. Some people may not ever notice them. These DVRs that send out emails to your smart phones are great. I will be able to dial 911 in real time, and offer a description of the thieves and their car.
