teslacoil86 0 Posted May 22, 2012 For the last few months I have researched, brought and tried many different CCTV systems without success. I now know a large amount then I did but I am no expert. I need 3 cameras, front of the house, side and back. The biggest issue is if they are on the outside of the house they will be damaged or stolen, if its antivandal it will be painted over - previous cctv camera has been stolen from our 2nd floor window. The room is unused and so no light from inside but a reasonable amount enters from the street light. Its double glazed windows. I've tried opening a small window and letting the cam view ouyside but this wasnt successful. I saw some in car / taxi cctv which worked perfectly at night and all the detail outside of the car through the glass could be seen perfectly well, this is what I am after but for home use with a DVR. I've looked at all external options but it really does need to be inside the upstairs windows and with a bit of a range incase the car cannot be parked directly outside my house if it is already taken. I know I will probably need a low lux cam or bullet cam. I've attached a picture to show where the cam must see, its facing the car parked on the road to the front of the house from the upstairs window, to the left of the picture is an outside street light which lights the area up pretty well with orange/yellow light but none of my previous dvr + camera kits were able to pick it up, only headlights of cars going by. I will solve the low light in the back and side by floodlights which is not possible for the front. I dont think an ADT installation will do the job and as its £850 min plus £16 a month Id be better off spending a one off payment on a dvr and some decent cameras. I'd extremely grateful if someone could tell me how to sort this problem, or the right kind of cameras for the job or if any additional info is required. Spent the last few years having car damage, short cuts through our garden, plant pots stolen, shed broken in to to name a few, this is my only option or its a move Thanks in advance google mapes showing street light, roadside and upstairs window http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/52/homeee.jpg/
tomcctv 190 Posted May 22, 2012 I dont think an ADT installation will do the job and as its £850 min plus £16 a month hi yes we came across someone who bought a ADT system (£960) and also had to pay a monthly fee (paying for first year) its cheaper to let people rob your house with all the stupid extra costs ADT make up. The biggest issue is if they are on the outside of the house they will be damaged or stolen, if its antivandal it will be painted over not an issue if put up right. good domes will do the job you need. not a good idea to mount them inside. what is your budget for a system ?? teslacoil86 0 Posted May 23, 2012 Budget will be around £600 including a new DVR, DVR must have motion detecting, 250gb is enough, internet access prefered but not vital. 4 channel is sufficient. ADT are a bit ridic, £16 per month maintenance charge, but they dont actually maintain anything and if the are any issues I have to pay for it. EDIT: I have considered a metal cage around it but I think spray paint would deem it pointless
Soundy 1 Posted May 23, 2012 You need to tie the camera into one of these... that will protect it from vandals and painters:

Dahua 4 channel dvr with 4 Vari focal 540tvl dome cameras. power supplies / cable / BNCs / and tools to fitt. is under your budget. EDIT: I have considered a metal cage around it but I think spray paint would deem it pointless cage on a home trust me it looks a mess and only attracts attention to the camera. if you mount them high enough then you have no problem. looking at your home picture each camera can be protected with another camera (people have to pass though other cameras) so you will always have a image.
