DVR is not recording

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to CCTV

Bought a system with 4 cameras and H.264 DVR

It worked fine when first bought but could not afford to have camera installed.

Have now installed cameras and can see view on screen.

Every thing works but it is not recording.

It recorded automatically when I first bought it. And the settings are the same now.

DVR is set to Manual setting as it was before .

There is no record button or start recording menu.

The little recording icon is in the corner of the screen.

When I got to see the list of recorded footage there is nothing there.

Is it broken .

Or have I got it set wrong.

Please help. This is very frustrating.

First thing I would check is the date in the DVR. Last month a client of mine replaced a DVR on his own then called me when he thought it wasn't recording. Turned out the year was set to 2011, not 2012.

Great thanks.

It is working now

After having our cars stripped twice by the same people seen on wireless cameras that were not clear enough to make an ID

Finally after replacing cables and running them myself I have security cameras that work.

I hope now I will have pics that the police can actually use

Your reply is appreciated thank you

Since you seem to know what your talking about can I ask you one more question.

Now I have recording working I played back the image and it has colored lines down the screen . These are there when I watch the current screen as well.

It seems to lesson as the sun moves from morning to afternoon

Can you not have sun facing into the camera.

Where is the best placing for the cameras.

Tried to send a pic of this but the file was too big

See attached pic

Thanks

I got some people fooled

I dabble in CCTV, but I'm no expert. I just try to use some common sense and draw from past experience

The sun can always cause issues. You'll see that the effects will worsen then get better with the time of day as well as the time of year. I have locations where the sun comes in through windows, reflects off tile floors & other items (both indoor and outdoor) are terrible with some camera placements for certain periods throughout the day. Just need to play around with sun sheilds & camera placement to prevent the rays from beaming into the lens. Camera quality has alot to do with it also.

Where to place cameras all depends on the location, environment and what you're trying to capture. I can't give a direct answer to that question.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes have been having a play with positioning and the neighbours over the road have the sun reflecting in there windows and blinding the camera at some angles.

Well I will have to play a bit.

I am just happy that I have a picture recording at the moment.

Have a good night
