wfduggan 0 Posted May 27, 2012 Hello all. I'm new to the forum and thanks for any help in advanced. I'm also new to security cameras, but I learn relatively quickly. LOL. so maybe this is a segway into a new business. LOL Any who, my problem is this: I live in the woods. I mean I live pretty far back without electric. We have recently been having issues with weird stuff going on. We do have some traffic, but nothing major maybe 2-3 cars come by a day. I will not be home very much as I have secured some out of state work, so the house won't have anyone there during the day. I'm looking for a completely 12v system, reason being is that my house is battery powered. We have solar panels that charge deep cycle batteries that power everything else from that. The simplest answer would to be to get more batteries and just run an inverter all the time, but this will also require more solar panels. And, the costs go up significantly. I'm looking more for a very small 12v system that can opperate on my current or slightly enlarged battery bank. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thewireguys 3 Posted May 27, 2012 Interesting project. I don't know what your budget is but if your looking for the most efficient solution I would have a look at Mobotix. The DVR is built into the camera and each camera only draws 4W. If your looking for a low res analog solution I would recommend mobile DVRs because they are designed to run on 12VDC but you will be drawing more power with a DVR + analog cameras then a Mobotix solution. http://www.mobotix.com/eng_US/content/view/full/4648
wfduggan 0 Posted May 27, 2012 Was toying with the idea of simple deer cams, but I want to have the recording box in a remote, locations so that if the cam is damaged or distroyed, I will still have recordings. Thanks. Will look into.
wfduggan 0 Posted May 27, 2012 Looked at Mobotix. At 2g a unit, it's out of my budget. I like the Mobile DVR idea I can pick up a new DVR for around 600 then get cams as I have extra money! It looks like it will be the most economic solution that will work with my 12v system. Thanks!
thewireguys 3 Posted May 27, 2012 Don't forget to add in the cost of the extra batteries and solar panels for the mobile dvr/cameras this might negate the price for Mobotix plus you have much higher resolution .
