Indoor use IP Camera that wont break the bank?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Been doing a lot of reading here an elsewhere on IP cameras.

I recently purchased 2 Foscam FI8910W cameras and ended up returning them this week.

My primary complaint was motion blur on the pictures it took. Didnt matter if it was daytime or night time. Would be pretty tough to identify an intruder with that poor quality a picture.

So im back in the hunt for something better. I have been considering cameras from AVTech, ACTi and Y-Cam and have looked at others as well.

The ACTi ACM-8511N looks to have all the features i want, but the price is more than i want to spend and some of the comments i have read weren't that positive.

I was hoping to find a PTZ camera with IR, but the more i have read, the more frustrated i have become.

The AVTech and Y-Cam seem to be the only cameras in my price range (along with all the Foscam knockoffs), but the AVN80X doesnt offer IR or PTZ and the Y-Cam seems to be on par with the quality of the Foscams and doesnt have PTZ.

If i go with the AVN80X, it was suggested i leave a light on in each room to help with the low light images. How much could i expect to spend on an external IR light and would it be worth having?

So now im rethinking my need for PTZ and just going with the AVN80X. I had hoped to be able to utilize the PTZ to look out a sliding glass door at our back yard during the day. Not a must have and i guess down the road, i can get an outdoor bullet or dome cam for that purpose.

Is this one of those situations where you have 3 criteria Low Price, Quality and Features and you can only pick 2?

Any other recommendations are appreciated.

Whats everyone's thoughts on the AVTech AVN805 or the AVN808? They both have IR.

The 805 goes for about $250, but i cant seem to find any place in the US that sells the 808.

Specs look pretty similar but the 808 uses a Sony Image Sensor.

805 Specs

Image Sensor 1/3" MOS image sensor

Min. Illumination 0.1 Lux / F1.5, 0 Lux (IR LED ON)

S/N Ratio More than 48dB (AGC off)

Electronic Shutter 1 / 60 (1/50) to 1 / 100,000 sec.

Lens f3.8mm / F1.5

Lens Angle 80.4° (Diagonal) / 65.4° (Horizontal) / 49.9° (Vertical)

IR LED 12 units

IR Effective Distance Up to 10 meters

PIR Sensor Detection Range 76° wide angle with up to 6m long distance at 2m height (under 30°C)

IRIS Mode AES

White Balance ATW

AGC Auto

808 Specs

Image Sensor 1/4" SONY HR image sensor

Min. Illumination 0.1 Lux / F1.5, 0 Lux (LED ON)

S/N Ratio More than 48dB (AGC off)

Lens f3.8mm / F1.5

Lens Angle 62.7° (Diagonal) / 53.7° (Horizontal) / 34.1° (Vertical)

IR LED 12 units

IR Effective Distance Up to 10 meters

PIR Sensor Detection Range 76° wide angle with up to 5m long distance at 2.5m height (under 30°C)

IR Shift YES

White Balance ATW

AGC Auto

So the 505 has the larger sensor and list the specs for shutter speed.

The 808 uses a Sony Sensor, but im not sure if the smaller sensor necessarily means poorer image quality or more of a chance of Image blur.

Anyone know anything about these?

Edit: Just noticed the AVTech AVM328A which looks to be the non-push version of the 808. Looks like i can get it here in the states for about $330, but no reviews or discussion it.

Ok after some further reading here, i have come up with another option.

The KT&C KNC-VNNi101NHV15 seems to have everything i want and then some.

One thing it isnt an HD camera, but do i really need it?

For the cheaper price tag of $325, maybe it would do the trick.

Can someone help a guy out and let me know if the KT&C cameras are of decent quality and reliable.

No reviews or discussion on this one either.

Are the Sony Super HAD CCD II sensors decent enough?

I just want to eliminate the image blur i experienced with the Foscams and can deal with the non HD video.
