kifaru 0 Posted June 3, 2012 I would like to get security cameras & NVR for residence. I started by looking at analog cameras & systems, but after seeing the higher resolution pics from digital cameras, digital is the route for me. I don't know much about cameras but I have narrowed my camera & NVR selection by the following criteria Camera - 3 or 4 IP Dome cameras -areas covered have motion lights -When motion lights go off, area is dark with a little light from neighbors & street lamp -budget $400 ~ $700 per camera -coverage area - front door, drive-way & backyard -general distance to be covered per camera 20X20ft -1.3 ~ 3 megapixel, not sure if I even need 5megapixel or greater NVR -email notification on motion -Blackberry & Android app support -preferably 1080p recording on all channels -HDMI outputs - Will be using 2 TVs, one up stair & the other down stairs for live view I have looked at Acti cameras .... KCM-7311,TCM-7811, TCM-7411, ACM-7411. I think these have descent specs but I am not a camera guy. In terms of NVR I have looked at Dahua 16 channel Do the NVR require licenses to accommodate cameras? Is licensing based on the number of cameras you would like to use? Do the NVR come with the mobile apps? Or do these have the be purchased separately Will the NVR software work with any or most IP cameras?
thewireguys 3 Posted June 3, 2012 I could be wrong but that NVR only records Dahua cameras.
ssmith10pn 0 Posted June 3, 2012 -HDMI outputs- Will be using 2 TVs, one up stair & the other down stairs for live view The only way I see that happening in the IP world is if you install the NVR software or the client software on a PC and install a quad output video card. Then build your views for each output.
Soundy 1 Posted June 4, 2012 I could be wrong but that NVR only records Dahua cameras. "IP Camera Supported List: Dahua, Arecont Vision, AXIS, Canon, Dynacolor, Panasonic, SAMSUNG, SANYO, SONY, ONVIF" -HDMI outputs - Will be using 2 TVs, one up stair & the other down stairs for live view The only way I see that happening in the IP world is if you install the NVR software or the client software on a PC and install a quad output video card. Then build your views for each output. If you don't need different views on each TV, then something like this: http://www.networktechinc.com/hdmi-splitter.html Camera- 3 or 4 IP Dome cameras -areas covered have motion lights -When motion lights go off, area is dark with a little light from neighbors & street lamp -budget $400 ~ $700 per camera -coverage area - front door, drive-way & backyard -general distance to be covered per camera 20X20ft -1.3 ~ 3 megapixel, not sure if I even need 5megapixel or greater The Dahua cameras in the banner ad to the left are a good selection. They're not the greatest in low light, but since you have motion security lights, they should deliver a good picture when the lights come on. They're 2MP and well under budget, and they're IP66 rated for outdoor usage. You MAY need to get them with a wider lens than the stock 3.6mm they come with. In terms of NVR I have looked at Dahua NVR-16 I haven't used this unit, but I have used their four-channel FULL D1 DVR, and AFAIK the setup and interface on the NVR is very similar. The PSS central-management software is really good and lets you directly access the cameras as well. Do the NVR require licenses to accommodate cameras? Is licensing based on the number of cameras you would like to use? As far as the Dahua NVR: No, and no. Do the NVR come with the mobile apps? Or do these have the be purchased separately Still referring to the Dahua: it doesn't come with the apps, but AFAIK there are both free and paid versions of the "official" app, and there are also other "generic" apps that work with it. kifaru 0 Posted June 4, 2012 Essentially I would like to see the same view from either TV, say if I am either up stairs or down stairs & would like to view events. Are there NVRs that can do 30FPS on 8 channels @ 1080p? I know I mentioned that I have motion lights, but I would like cameras with good low light performance as well, just my luck the one time the motion lights don't kick in is the day there would be an incident...know on wood
Soundy 1 Posted June 4, 2012 Essentially I would like to see the same view from either TV, say if I am either up stairs or down stairs & would like to view events. An HDMI splitter is all you'd need, at the most basic... if a TV is too far, you'll also need an extender. Where it gets tricky is if you want to control the DVR remotely as well - then you either need an HDMI extender that includes IR support (IR receiver, or "mouse", at the TV end; IR "blaster" at the DVR end), or instead of a direct HDMI link to the DVR, you'd need some kind of PC connected to the TV, running the PSS software or web browser connected to the DVR. Cheap HDMI extenders can be had for <$50 and require two UTP (Cat5e/Cat6) cables per feed, and I don't know if any support IR... I've used an expensive one that DOES do IR and uses a single Cat5e... I think it ran around $350. Are there NVRs that can do 30FPS on 8 channels @ 1080p? Sure. Consider though, that 30fps is typically overrated. Most times you'd never even see a difference between 30 and 15fps, and in many cases even the difference between 30 and 10fps would barely be noticeable, let alone a problem.
