rayt 0 Posted June 4, 2012 I have a geovision camera i am installing, it has Cat6 that can support poe, but i need to use ac24v for the built in heater. I am trying to figure out what is the best option to run both cat6 and ac24v, poe is easy enough for anyone to figure out, but i haven't run both cat6 and ac24v parallel to each other before. i would like some suggestions as to how to do this properly. Thanks.
jxk716 0 Posted June 4, 2012 Well, if you are pulling Cat6 for the camera why not pull another for the heater? Should be no problem using Cat6 for power since it is copper. Otherwise you can go with any copper conductor pair laying around like 18/2. For example, in my case, we ran Cat5 along with RG-59. At one camera 3 pairs of the Cat5 was used for power until an IP camera was installed. Now the Cat5 is used (PoE included) so I plan to use the RG-59 for power (if needed for a heater)- not the most professional way but it will do...
