Camera Comparrison - Vivotek vs AVS Uriel cameras

Recommended Posts

I have just got in a Uriel / AVS camera , 3mp. I thought I would put it up against a Vivotek. I have posted the full frame snapshots coming from an AverMedia system, if you want to view them.

First, a Vivotek FD8161 2 megapixel dome

Now the Uriel AVS 3 megapixel camera, model HD212WIR3 3 megapixel bullet

Continuing... I don't see a huge quality difference, but if you wanted to get the Vivotek in a outdoor bullet, like the Uriel, it would be model IP8362, which my dealer cost is over twice the cost of this Uriel AVS, and the Uriel has 3mp, not 2mp, and also is WDR. This camera, so far, seems like a dream for [price edited out] (dealer cost).

So far, the only down is that it has a fan that kicks on, and you can hear it, and it vibrates. I'm guessing I just have a bad fan inside it.

Anyone suggest a comperable ONVIF IP camera in the 2-3MP range for that price?

Hmmm, it's a pretty noticeable difference to me - the Uriel is really soft around the outside. Are the two cameras using the same or at least similar lenses??

Still, given the price difference, it's not bad. You might want to compare to the Dahua ESIPMP3-1 - ONVIF, 3MP, TDN box cam, works quite well with a proper MP lens... retail price of $399.

That ESIPMP3-1 looks nice. Is that price with a lens, or without? That would make a big difference.

Here is a blow up of the two, from a section far to the left of the view. Not a huge difference, but I'd be willing to call it a 2MP, and be happy. But I can see that the 3mp is a little sharper, even on the edge when I blow it up, but I didn't really check all the other edges. I also did not do an anal job with the focusing either... no ND filter in front or anything like that.

Here is the same photos, cropped and enlarged. I guess I still see the mp3 being sharper, and don't really see the soft edges, but I didn't do a top and bottom.

Why talk about your dealer cost in a open public forum?

I'm sorry, I did not know you were not supposed to mention dealer cost here. I guess that makes sense. I should have just noted that the Vivotek was more than double the price.

Fixed it for you

Without... they list a 3.8-13mm auto-iris Fujinon MP lens as an option for an extra $100. It usually makes sense to list a box cam WITHOUT lens by default, as a lot of guys want to select a particular one for the job.

I'm using mine with a Computar 3.1-8mm f/1.2 AI lens I got for something like $40 on fleaBay... works quite nicely Plus I already have a good collection of C/CS lenses, MP and SD, AI and manual, to work with, so being able to get the camera without the added cost of the lens was a definite bonus.

Sorry about that. I do see what you mean about switching the links on the top. The link that ended in .mp2 was the Vivotek, and the .mp3 ending was the Uriel AVS.

But, my link that ended in test.jpg was accurate. But now I have to make sure tomorrow. But as I see it, the AVS is a chunk clearer then that Vivotek. I can see the timer (which I think you are calling the clock) is clearer on the AVS. But tomorrow I will make sure I have the correct images on that for sure. I think I would like to do an outside test.
