ltovey 0 Posted June 13, 2012 Hi All I have a small printing business. We run 6 large format printers - epson stylus pro 11880's. We print mainly for professional photographers. We are based in Australia. I have an outsourced office in Manila, Philippines where we conduct most back office functions. The person who was responsible in Australia for printing the photos has just resigned, and I'm investigating the feasibility of having the printer runs sent and monitored from our office in Manila (the actual print jobs will be printed in Australia). A lot can go wrong during a print run and I need some advice on a CCTV system that will allow our staff in Manila to remotely monitor and zoom in on the jobs. The general guidelines are 1. I need to be able to zoom in on each printer so that I can see a 10 point font line clearly. 2. I need to be able to zoom out so that I can see the entire printer (around 2.5m wide x 1.6m high) 3. I need to be able to easily switch between each camera so that we can continuously monitor the printers 4. Recording would be nice, but not essential 5. The staff in Manila need to be able to log in remotely and control the cameras 6. I would like to be able to do it for around USD/AUD$3000 The printers are around the perimeter of a 6m x 6m room. The ceiling is 2.8m high and I can mount the cameras anywhere on the ceiling. I originally started looking at Samsung PTZ cameras with 37 times zoom. I thought that this would allow me to install one camera and view all of the printers. They were around $2000 each. I then thought that maybe I could install 6 x SID-370 samsung cameras (one for each printer) with no PTZ,but with 37x zoom. If I positioned the cameras correctly then I should be able to zoom in and out as required. When I spoke with a reseller (who was overall pretty unhelpful) they advised that the SID-370 was only a 440,000pixel camera and would not give me the clarity I need. They recommended 6 x HD cameras that ended up a lot more expensive than I had budgeted. My questions are 1. Will a 440,000pixel camera allow me to zoom in and see 10 point font clearly ? (I can position the camera from 1m to 6m away) 2. I've read that samsung are not the best quality cameras. Is there a better brand/model camera for my needs. 3. Am I being unrealistic thinking that I can the setup I want for $5000 4. Am I better investing in a single, super high quality PTZ camera or 6 x zoom cameras ? My apologies if I have missed some crucial information as a result of my general ignorance of CCTV. Thank-you very much in advance
