DVR/DSL Modem help?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a Samsung SRD 450 and have a DSL line with a static IP

I've obtained the IP, the Gateway, the Subnet, the DNS 1 and DNS 2 info from my ISP and have inputted them into my DVR

My DVR is connected directly to the modem

How can I remote access the DVR?

Thanks

You need to assign a local ip address to your dvr and input that address to the dvr. This is usually something like 192.168.1.xxx.

Then you need to login to your router and enable port forwarding for all the ports specified by your dvr. There are a lot of online resources that can help you with that.

Once you have set up port forwarding you will be able to access your dvr remotely by typing the static ip address from your ISP.

Thanks

I got confused with internal and external IP addresses

So once its set up, I can put in my external IP and the DVD port number for remote viewing?

So what does the ddns Samsung supplies me with do? (Macaddress).websamsung.net

DDNS is only needed if you do not have a static IP address from your ISP.

Yes, you'll just type in your external IP and you will be set.

If You have an external IP address from Your service provider, and there is only DSL modem, You need to forward Your ports from internal to external IP address.

DDNS is only needed if you do not have a static IP address from your ISP.

Or if you can't remember the IP address. Remembering an address like mydvr.xxxxxx.com is a lot easier than remembering the actual IP address. I find DDNS to be a very valuable tool whether there's a static IP address or not. Just my personal opinion.
