Ferrino 0 Posted July 5, 2012 My father-in-law is in need of a wireless camera which he can use to keep an eye on his elderly mother, who lives in a house about 200 metres / 600 ft. from the main building. There is an internet connection in the main building, but not in his mother's house. It is a rural area with nothing in between and a clear line of sight. They don't need any recording/monitoring functionality - just to be able to plug it into their TV set and watch a live feed occasionally, to save them walking there and back all the time. Does anyone have any recommendations for this distance, please? I am not familiar with radio-based cameras as I am using a wired CCTV setup at home. But I see a lot of videos of people flying radio-controlled helicopters with a camera and transmitter attached, and they must see some pretty hefty distances? Thankyou very much! Rockvilleash1976 0 Posted July 7, 2012 This is easy if you have a large budget but most home systems are limited by budget. You need a wireless network between the two houses. http://www.avalanwireless.com/ The best option for homes will be something that uses GSM/Cell technology and you will have a montlly fee. Find someone that offers this http://homesecurity.honeywell.com/ If you do it yourself there is a lot of thought that needs to go into what Freq to use. Ferrino 0 Posted July 8, 2012 Thanks. What sort of range would I get from something like this? http://www.xheli.com/hemiwivica.html
yakky 0 Posted July 8, 2012 With the right antennas, there is no reason you couldn't do a wifi bridge between the two buildings and use an IP camera.
Rockvilleash1976 0 Posted July 8, 2012 the 2.4 camera should work fine. You will get some distortion in the picture but if all you need to do is check in on a loved one than this should work fine.
jame 0 Posted July 24, 2012 this is possible but a large budget is require, make security network between the two houses or Mr:rockvileash's view is also very suitable to use the GSM/Cell technology and you have to pay monthly for it. If there is network problem then you can use the wifi. may you get a good idea through this thread,so best of luck http://www.cavesecure.com.au/
