Indoor camera for outdoor?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have decided to go down the route of IP megapixel cameras instead of analogue cameras.

I have been looking at several cameras for outdoor usage and have came across this one:

http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/Prod_GVIPCAMH264120D.asp

It says here that this cameras operating temperature is: 0 °C ~ 50 °C / 32 °F ~ 122 °F

If I put this camera into a housing with a heater, will this be able to work OK outside?

We can get to temperatures very rarely at about -20 celcius during the winter but it is becoming colder here every winter (Ireland)

Hi. yes in ireland and the UK the geo is expensive remember it is only a 1.3mp with a price range of. £340 to £480 ($700 to $900)

while others are lowering there prices geo needs to follow. have a shop around first your in the price range of 2 or 3mp external cameras.

and by the time you put the geo into a housing you are looking at around £500 which is over a $1,000

But I'm looking for good quality IP cameras. Is the brand you mentioned any good?

From the looks of things, I'd need to spend 300£+ to get a decent low light outdoor ip camera.

Cheers

Jack

Before you go direct to China for a camera, consider support, service, NVR software. Even if the camera is good, where will you get support, will you be dealing with someone in China by email, skype, phone? How long will it take to turnaround a defective camera, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year? Will you get help configuring the camera? Are the cameras built to last?

I personally use ACTi at home for decent camera at a reasonable price with great support and service. I also use Axis cameras at my weekend home, also great service and support, but more expensive. Certain Axis models work with Camera Companion, free software from Axis that allows you to view the cameras and recordings directly from the camera. ACTi provides free traditional NVR software that works very well with their cameras.
