mysticav 0 Posted October 9, 2005 Hi, I'm setting down a GV-1480 Geovision combo card. it works perfectly as far as what i'm doing. Just video /audio monitor/record. Know, I would like make the best use of this wonderful system by adding adittional services. 1.- Hotline call with modem. Kindly suggest me a modem that works. I tried with a gateway internal modem and it makes the call, but when I attach a sound, I can't ear nothing of the recorded sound (yes, it's a 8,000 khz, 8bit, mono audio clip). THe modem is old. so, I guess the problem is the modem. It rings, but after getting the phone the call breaks. I'm in USA, so recommend me a well known modem for americans. 2.- Alarm system for Trigger motion detection. I know I need a GV-NET Card, but I don't have an idea what kind of alarm I have to buy. Any suggestions are most welcome. If you have an experience with one, let me know please. 3.- external motion detector for input trigger. The same question. Any model, brand that you can suggest me. 4.- A PTZ camera. Sheap and good for testing purposes. I'm interested specially in the object tracking function. Thank you very much. rory 0 Posted October 9, 2005 Object tracking i think only works with Sensormatic, which are not the cheap ones. Merit lilin is probably the cheapest, without jimmy rigging a DIY ptz camera. Optex make some really good Outdoor Beams http://www.optexamerica.com/indexes/phelec_index.cfm and: http://www.optexamerica.com/indexes/gen_index.cfm?class=outdoorpir I havent used the alarm side yet, but i think you dont need an alarm system per say, just tie in the alarm trigger to the GV net card - eg, yellow and green from the motion or beam, as they do all the work anyway. Ofcourse will need to power the beams or motions and can use something like the an altronix power supply (the amp size depends on how much total current you will be drawing) with a 12V back up battery, inside an enclosure. Maybe someone else can provide some info on the alarm integration. Rory
iwatchlive 0 Posted October 10, 2005 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5789623478&category=48629&refid=store Is the cheapest ptz that will work with the GEOVision DVR software. It is only a true PT and Digital Z that is. But it is a cheap camera that works with PELCO-D protocol and it is awesome. We use them all over the state for hotel front desk cameras as they are small, sleek and work all of the time. The price obviously is the best feature. No touring, but I bet if the little Sony Clone PTz had dynacolor or Lilin protocols built into it, it would fly around it's 355° gimbal if you will. I also am very interested in learning how to wire on of those big I/O thingies as I have the entire line of products just sitting there in our inventory closet and it calls me a "puss" for not trying for about a year. I read those instructions which appear in ENGRISH, but seem like Chinese to me. Plus I never knew where to get those IDE looking connector wires to get all of the contacts from the I/O to the GV Relay. I get quite upset and begin to smash things faster than most people, who use calming drugs, but they don't work for me either, I just usually end up smashing the perscription bottle too! I hope to read more about the GV relay connectivity and motion sensors as I have plenty of uses for them. For Example clicking the mouse to bring me a little korean girl over to walk on my back when we goto Vegas for ISCWEST WOO!!! We will see you all there! mysticav 0 Posted October 10, 2005 Well, regarding the alarm issue, Actually what I want to do is generate a sound when video motion occurs. I didn't find any way to do this with the PC speakers. So, rory, are you telling me that the GV-NET works like a switch ? I don't know much about relays, I guess it's a kind of switch that is activated with voltage, or does it sends voltage ? Can I connect a 12V siren directly to the GV-NET card ? What exacltly do I need. Thanks !! Or if there's a way to use the PC speakers will be great .
scottj 0 Posted October 10, 2005 The GV-NET is only an RS-485 to RS-232 convertor, nothing more. What you need is a DI/DO board (GV-NET/IO). This will give you four digital inputs and four relay outputs in order to add a sepearte motion detector (or a siren as you mention). Please refer to the folling link: http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/product/gv-net-io-cardA.pdf scottj
iwatchlive 0 Posted October 10, 2005 There is another way ofaccomplishing a sound when motion is detected, using the motion detection zone setting and output a wav file. With a speaker and an amplifier, you can get the same results without the mess an expense of wiring. It was a quick fix, but it works. Email me for more info if you need. mysticav 0 Posted October 11, 2005 Yes, actually it's a perfect alternative. Thank you very much. I'll output the wav from my PC to an amplifier, I will find a siren wav emulation, and that's it. Anyway, I'm intersting about how to start using the GV-NET I/O cards, just to be prepare when the situation demands it. Thanks for the information. And by the way, does any of you guys have experience with a modem for hotline calls in geovision ?
scottj 0 Posted October 11, 2005 The modem has to be an External modem, and they are not cheap like the internal modems. There is a list of verified working modems on Geo's website. Also, how is the amplifier cheaper than using a 10.00 piezo siren? Sure it will work, but fi you ever decide to use the bi-directional audio feature it will be a pain. mysticav 0 Posted October 11, 2005 Yes, you are right. it's just a quick solution. Regarding the modem, geovison suggest modems that actually I just can't find over the web to buy. Also, I have an internal modem and it works, it generate the call, the only problem is when you attach a wav. If you have a brand and model of an external modem already tested, kindly recommend it, and if possible where to buy it (I hope newegg.com would have it)
scottj 0 Posted October 11, 2005 Heck, we probably have a few laying around the office. I will be back in there on Thursday. Let me check and see which ones they are and if I have one you can have it as long as you pay the freight.

iwatchlive 0 Posted October 11, 2005 Does anyone know why the GV 1240 doesn't display the AGC button in 7.02? Also, I wanted to know of the link to the approved or known good modems to use. We have an External USR but I have heard theat that one doesn't work. Anyone heard of programming the domes via the ptz control panel? I used it and it works like a charm. NO need for the KEYBOARD baby! See ya! ADAM~
CCTVDude 0 Posted October 11, 2005 Will an external USR Modem work? It is like the standard these days...
