No Video on Spot Output

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have a problem with my DVR not giving me any signal from the spot out ports.

I have this set as follows...

Spot out... bnc... splitter.. 2 bnc out to 2 seperate monitors... both monitors use a video convertor to vga... connects to monitor.

This was working perfect until recently.

I have checked the cabling and all is fine.

When i connect up the two monitors just remain in sleep mode and a message on screen says no input video ?

I'm at a complete loss ?

Have checked the power supplys for the convertors (5v) and both are reading 5.08V DC (Seems fine) ?

Any Ideas ???

Grab yourself a TV & plug into the spot mon O/P on the DVR . This will prove the DVR. My guess is the composite to VGA converter. They are notoriously unreliable.

Just as you said it turns out to be the VGA Converter....

sees strange though that 2 broke at the same time ?

Anyway have replaced one with a spare I found but need another....

Any suggestions to a decent manufacturer or supplier ?

Thanks

It has to be VGA because the outputs both run to 19" pc monitors that only have VGA inputs.

These are now mounted in place on brackets and while not the best solution they work nicely and look the part and cost very little. (£120 for the pair)

I'm not sure if theres any other way to connect these.

Thanks

Most DVRs now days have a composite o/p , a VGA o/p & more recently a HDMI o/p. Has yours only a composite o/p ?

sorry , forget that. I forgot we were talking about the spot o/p

Why not use a VGA splitter, removing some of the connections that you have.

VGA out to splitter, then single VGA to each monitor.

MonoPrice has a few of these that you can get for under $20.

Two reasons....

Number 1 not sure about cable length on those splitters... would nedd a VGA cable of around 25m to reach furthest screen.

Number 2 if I connect to the vga out i don't get the function of the spot out... ie I can't select which channel/cameras are displayed independently... I would just have the main screen output on bothe screens which isn't any good.

Screen 1... attached to dvr vga out... Just used for setup, config, and pulling any footage needed.

Screen 2... attached to dvr monitor out (BNC).. sited in back store and replicates main vga out... Used for monitoring all cams by manager

Screen 3... attached to dvr Spoy Out 1... Used to show an individual cam, or to cycle cams depending on customer requirements.

With Spliiter i would be limited to just the main output as far as i'm aware.

I have looked everywhere for a decent quality Convertor but all seem to be the same cheap rubbish.

Was looking at these...

Unit is very similar to what is currently being used (or was before it broke)...

What you think ?

Thanks for your opinions... You have helped me greatly.
