IR Illuminator Discovery (IR vs Non-IR)

Driveway Cameras, Different angles.

I have 2 cameras installed in the front of my house (1 IR and 1 no IR) and thought it would be a good idea to purchase a separate IR unit to compliment both cameras..

No good, the individual IR unit only compliments the existing IR camera and isn't even noticeable with the non-IR camera, lesson learned.

Bummer. I assume that's because the existing non-IR camera isn't true Day/Night? No IR cut filter?

I've got an IR illuminator I haven't installed yet. It will be interesting to see which cameras it helps and which it doesn't.

Yeah, that's a bummer. Sometimes you can take apart the camera and remove the IR filter at the expense of daylight colors. Which illuminator did you go with?

Actually, that's the problem: standard color cameras DO have IR cut filters (that's what they do: cut out the IR). TDN cameras have *removable* IR cut filters to allow the IR in when they switch to night/B&W mode, which is why they work with illuminators.

It's the one located on the top of the picture, purchased off eBay for $44.00 and I have it mounted outside an attic window approx. 30 feet high..works like a charm. You can actually see how well the IR works by the shadow of the car in the driveway. Another convenience was that uses a standard 120 volt power source. I'm quite happy with the unit.
