EOppie 0 Posted August 16, 2012 Hey everyone, I am thinking my computer I am using to run Blue Iris is beginning to meet the top end of what it can handle. Would it be more of a video card issue, rather than a processor or memory issue? I apologize for my ignorance here. I added a Panasonic WF-SF336 to the current setup which consisted of: Axis M1113 Axis M3204 Sony SNC-DF80N My current computer is a Dell Optiplex 755: Windows 7 4GB Memory (Max) 3.20Ghz Intel Pentium D 32 Bit system I have also looked into just biting the bullet and getting a dedicated NVR. Right now looking at a Dahua NVR3816. I had also looked at only an 8 channel model, however from what I understand if I want to record all at higher resolution, I would need the 16 channel version. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
EOppie 0 Posted September 21, 2012 FYI, as an update to this post I did end up upgrading the PC. ProcessorIntel® Core™ i7-2600 Quad Core Operating System Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Total Memory 16GB PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory Hard Drive 120GB SSD Graphics Intel® HD 2000 Now BI runs like a champ. I occasionally have a problem where a camera starts recording on a motion trigger and freezes after 3 seconds or so, however I don't know if this is a machine or a camera issue. Overall much happier with the system upgrade.
jakesoundels 0 Posted September 21, 2012 Don't forget to use a good disk defrag and cleaner every month or so! I use Auslogics defrag/disk optimizer and Ccleaner from filehippo...all free Run the cleaner first
MaxIcon 0 Posted October 2, 2012 Yeah, I'm running comparisons on BI CPU usage, and have found that going to a 2nd gen i5 or better gives a huge performance increase. My first gen dedicated i3-540 box can run 6-7 MP at 10fps, motion detect, one client connected, at 75-85% cpu, and that's it. Add another 1MP or connect another client or two, and it hits 100% cpu, with the performance problems that go along with that. My 2nd gen i5-2500k non-dedicated box will run 12 MP with the same settings and only hit 60% CPU or so, while running other general purpose apps as well. JT1 0 Posted March 8, 2013 I've asked myself the same question: BI/PC vs. DVR/NVR. I've run both for years, going back to a PC/capture card and an old webcam program, an older q-see DVR, and now BI on a PC. as much as I hate running a pc 24/7, I always go back to the flexibility, customization, and support for BI. I'll stick with BI myself.

barks 0 Posted March 8, 2013 Running basically the same setup as the OP with BI, I7-2600, 16GB memory, 256GB SSD, use the original 2TB HDD that came with the system for data. Currently BI is configured with 2 HD and 4 SD cams on non-dedicated system. Runs great, around 12-15% CPU utilization.
