Joe321 0 Posted September 11, 2012 Hello, I was looking for replacement lens information on a Dahua IPC-HFW2100, and found this forum. There seems to be some knowledgeable people here, so hopefully someone can help me out. The camera I have is a 6mm lens and its field of view is too narrow so I want to try something in the 3.x mm range. I believe it has a M12 x 0.5 lens. Can the lens be swapped in this camera? Anything specific I should look for in a replacement lens? The allen head screws that secure the back of the camera seem to be slightly larger than 2mm, but smaller than 2.5mm. A 3/32" key was too large as well. Do I just need to find a 2mm with a tighter fit or is it some one-off size? Thanks, Joe
MaxIcon 0 Posted September 11, 2012 There's a huge range of M12 board cam lenses out there, and it's a jungle. Here are a few things to consider: - Make sure you get a 1/3" lens. If it doesn't specify the size, it's probably 1/4", which will both give a different field of view than you expect, and may cause a dark halo around your image. 1/2" will work too, and will give better image quality since your sensor is further away from the edges, but the field of view will be different than the same focal length in a 1/3" lens. - Since that's an IR camera, you want an IR lens. There are 2 kinds of IR coatings on lenses - one blocks IR (which you don't want), and one corrects the focus of IR so that IR and white light spectrum have the same focal point (this is the one you want). You can also use a non-IR lens, but the focus will be fuzzier with the IR filter out. - A good quality MP rated lens is a good idea. The cheapest board cam lenses have mediocre image quality, especially around the edges. Now, lots of vendors call their lenses MP rated, and you won't know if they're right until you install it. You'll probably want a lens in the 2.8-3.6mm range, but it's hard to know until you install it. Dahua has an optional 3.6mm lens for this cam, so you might be able to get one through a vendor. If you look up the various web demos for this cam, you may be able to find one with the 3.6mm lens to see how it will look. Name brand lenses are most reliable, but can be expensive. Otherwise, it's a matter of finding a web site or vendor who sounds like they know what they're talking about and allows returns. Can't say about the screw, unless it's a Torx or something. When I replace board cam lenses, I leave off the locking screw and put a wrap of teflon tape on the threads to keep them from shifting.
buellwinkle 0 Posted September 11, 2012 Contact the folks you got it from and order the lenses you want or sell the camera and buy one with the correct lens. Trying to find a perfect lens online is a total crapshoot. First, what if the length is different, too long and cover won't close, too short and you may get light bleed from the LEDs. If it was the Dahua 1080P dome, you can probably get away with it because it's go plenty of room between the lens and the dome cover and there's no IR illuminators.
