Waderave 0 Posted October 23, 2012 Hello, what is the max distance for cat5 to run analogue cams? I have a camera at the front gate which is about 140m from the DVR & pwr supply, using 2 pairs for 12v and 1 pair for video. recently it started flashing white at nite time only and has slowly over the weeks has gone completely kaput! I removed the cam and plugged it directly into the DVR and worked fine! What should I do?!
the toss 0 Posted October 23, 2012 Take it back to the gate , plug it in & power it from down there. This will only involve a 12V battery (if it is a 12V camera). I'm betting that it will work which then proves the issue is your voltage drop over the cat5. Cat 5 will easily work over 140m for the video signal.
Kawboy12R 0 Posted October 23, 2012 If it used to work and doesn't now, I'd start looking for wire problems. Weak crimps, loose corroded connections, a wire pinched, or whatever. Maybe you added another camera to the same power supply that dropped the voltage to the driveway cam by just enough to make it stop working?
Waderave 0 Posted October 23, 2012 Thanks. I've powered the camera up from the front gate 5m away, and it powers up the cam ok, but the screen is completely black!
Kawboy12R 0 Posted October 23, 2012 Looking more like trouble in the pair you used for video now. See above but check the video pair.
