Internet Recording

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I have a h.264 DVR i have set up remote control and viewing via Internet with Dyndns etc.

The thing is that my client wants to records the cameras to his PC at his home.

What do i have to do in order to do this?

Do it i have to set up the DVR's program at his home PC?

Or is there any other free program that can do the job?

Thank you in advance

Marios N.

Depending on the DVR it may not be practical. Far better to download recorded video from the DVR remotely and store it remotely.

I suspect from the DVR description you gave it's some sort of generic Chinese DVR without a momma (not officially imported) ad those tend not to be too feature packed although usually rather good enough for the domestic or home user.

Recording remotely has too many parameters that will affect it so it's often a compromise. The second stream is the setting at which a remote recording is captured, and it then has to stream across the WWW to the remote client as it were, to be recorded. By the time all this happens (and especially at low rescource end of the market) the received data has lost some of it's information. Far better to recover captured files remotely, as already saved files that can transfer across the WWW which will more or less be identical to having been saved locally.

If your client MUST do it, despite all the disadvantages that has been listed, see if there's a icon on your remote control interface called "Client Record" (that's what is it called on our dvr, looks like a film wheel)

Under setup there should be a 'local config' where you can select the save path of the "Local record".

After all i tried the Video Viewer program that comes with the DVR at my clients home PC...Method TCP..On IP address field enter the name that Dyndns gave me..Port number the port that i have already open for Dyndns...User and pass the admin ones....and there you go i can view and monitor his office cameras through his home and the most importand i can record them at his home PC as well.

Thank you for your time and your info guys and i hope i help a bit the next one that will try this.

Cheers
