Firefighter 0 Posted November 7, 2012 Hey guys, as I save up for an IP system I'm mapping out all the cam location/wiring before hand. I was wondering what the Max distance is for Cat5e or Maybe even cat6 if I need to. It would be with a 1080P 2MP cam. For this specific camera it doesn't have to be POE since it's going on the outdoor brick Carport which is Powered I could always wire the power in from there within a few feet, If I had to.... Or if poe would work; awesome. As far as distance from the DVR I could be looking at 150ft for the video signal distance. Thanks.
Kawboy12R 0 Posted November 7, 2012 328 feet max including jack to jack and patch cord length. Easy peasy for 150ft. Try this for a more scientific PoE calculation.
hardwired 0 Posted November 8, 2012 PoE will be fine at 150 Feet, and up to the standard 100 Meter/328 Foot point. The distance limits on CAT5/6 cabling carrying Ethernet data has more to do with the degradation of data signal on the cable than power considerations, multiple devices are on the market to allow for repeating the data at a midpoint, and still delivering PoE power at 600 Feet or more on CAT5/6 cable.
