Please design my system

Recommended Posts

Hi I need some help designing a video security system... thanks in advance!

Here is what we would like:

  • 4-5 cameras, 2 wireless, rest can be wired. All wireless is fine too.
  • Cameras need to be for outdoor use.
  • DVR with at leat 100 GB memory. 500GB is preferable.
  • DVR needs to be able to be connected to the internet for remote viewing
  • remote viewing needs to be very secure
  • need to be able to choose which cameras are remote-viewable.

The wireless cameras will not have line of sight.. They will need to transmit through a brick wall -OR- possibly some sort of booster/repeater mounted on a roof.

Can we get this done for under $500 for the equipment?

Thank you!

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, day & night cam with IR. 40' IR should be enough

IR lighting? as in extra lighting? probably not. At night the area is only moderately lit

Box or dome? 1 needs to be dome due to power wiring and mounting constraint, the others can be box or dome..

Fixed should be fine, zoom is a plus

1-3 mp? Whatever gives a usable image to identify faces and license plates

Storage format doesn't matter

Stand alone DVR that can connect to the internet. Eventually I would like to be able to transmit the video from DVR to remote storage (dedicated server offsite)

Ignore my $500... I'm not sure how much this should cost.

The dome camera is to be located in a small entranceway with a metal roof and brick walls. There is power wiring to a security light in this breezeway/entranceway. Other than that, any power wiring or signal wiring would be too complicated.

The rest of the cameras can be located on the corner of the building, up near the roof (easier to run wires), and mounted to the rear door (electrical and signal wiring will be easier in this case)

Thanks!

i would look into MOBOTIX for best low light night shots but you will still need good lighting to ID any thing. For day shots look at AXIS or ACTI.

Just remember the higher MP cams need more light and work best in the day and will cost you alot more storage space.

sorry i cant help more im just getting started in all this maybe someone else on here can chim in.

Hello,

I would go to this site and research some of the wireless 101 information. I recently did a 32 camera (wireless) bid for a customer that came out to appx 37k. They went with the buried cable at the end. But check this site. They have good wireless receivers and transmitters at decent pricing.

Good Luck!
